Use an update query in Access desktop databases to update or change the existing data in a set of records. SOLVED Records from Access Database are disappearing at random. I have just been made aware of a really weird situation. Exposition Our HR department uses an Access Database to track applicants. They enter data directly into the spreadsheet as opposed to using any kind of form. The only reason they use Access instead of Excel is because of the ability to run reports. This is how they did it before they had an in house IT person, and I dont know enough about databases in general to want to change their setup. The HR secretary, or occasionally the company receptionist, will enter the original data. The HR Director and HR Specialist will then review and update the data. Finally the Office assistant will code each applicant based on the review. Recently they have noticed that random records in the database have simply ceased to exist. The timing and data thats missing is inconsistent. Apparently they only even noticed this because the Office Assistant has gotten back logged, and in the process of doing her part has noticed that clusters of applicants she hasnt gotten to are just not there. The HR Secretary has then noticed that entries that the Office Assistant has confirmed completed are now missing as well. We use Office 2. 01. Access database is an older version. Im not 1. We had tried to update it, but the new version constantly got corrupted so it was decided its just easier to use the version that doesnt do that. I restored every available version of the database in our backups back to March and theyve been able to restore most, if not all of the missing data, but that still begs the question howwhy is the data going missing. My only explanation for missing data in Access was that someone was deleting it, but since those five are the only people with access to it on the server that seems unlikely. In my research before coming here I found one thread where it was mentioned that the data is not saved immediately to the database on the server, but is first saved on the computer and eventually synced. That network instability could cause the sync to fail and therefore the data never actually appears in the database. I dont know of any instability though, that could account for the rampant and widespread chunks of missing data, nor does it make sense to me that much later entries would randomly disappear from that. Also I have no idea how I would even check to account for that. Inmemory database system questions are answered here.
